Lasting pain relieffrom tooth pain
Saving your teeth is a priority, but sometimes it’s not the best solution. If the tooth is impacted, severely decayed, or affected by advanced gum disease, other treatments may not work. Certain procedures, such as dental braces or an implant treatment, would also require the tooth to be removed as part of the preparation.
Facing a tooth removal can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be, and in many cases, it can be the best step for your long-term oral health. Here at Moody Terrace Dental Practice [link to homepage], we can safely and efficiently extract a diseased tooth to provide lasting pain relief. Throughout the procedure, we ensure you’re completely comfortable and relaxed, giving you a truly worry-free experience.

Why tooth removalis the right choice
- Permanent pain relief for a decayed tooth
- Helps avoid impacted tooth problems (infection, misalignment, pain or gum disease
- Prevents the spread of infection (to the gums, jawbone, and neighbouring teeth)
- Creates space for the other teeth to move during an orthodontic treatment
- Part of the preparation before getting dentures or dental implants
What happens duringa tooth removal procedure
1. Examination and Diagnostics
Our dentist will examine the affected tooth and take x-rays as needed to assess the condition and help with treatment planning.
2. Numbing the Area
Next, we will administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area, ensuring that you won’t feel any pain throughout the procedure.
3. Loosening and Removing the Tooth
Using dental instruments, we will gently loosen the tooth from the socket so it can be removed easily.
For more complex cases (such as an impacted tooth), our oral surgeon may need to cut the gum tissue to gain access to the tooth underneath. In this situation, the gums will be stitched closed after the tooth extraction.
4. Aftercare
After your tooth has been removed, you’ll be provided with a piece of gauze to bit gently down on to support healing of the area. A small clot will form in the socket, this is a natural part of the healing process.

The hygienist I saw was quite formidable but delightful when I found out that she had a problem with cakes and sweet things, she melted when I said wonderful sugar kept her and probably the entire profession in work😉! 10/10.
Excellent treatment by Adam. Always thorough, very gentle and explains results carefully.
Thanks to all.
Sally took the time to explain things to me and addressed the things that made me anxious, resulting in a positive experience.
They are a credit to the team and I would recommend Sally if you do have anxieties around your dental visits, she is amazing!

From the second you arrive at reception you are made welcome, everyone is kind, friendly and supportive, the little touch of someone coming down to reception to meet you and walk you to the consultation room means that you are already quite relaxed with the chat on the way. Throughout my many consultations I never felt rushed or hurried, a very relaxing and chatty experience every time. Adam and later Tom and Robin explained the various processes, offered alternatives and ideas I had not thought of at all. Detailed reports, charts, xrays etc appear in my inbox before I'm even back home, all of which explain everything succinctly.
Well done to the whole team, 10/10, I could not wish for better
I was there for a routine check up but the dentist found time to investigate an ear difficulty that may be caused by my teeth or jaw. He was thorough, knowledgeable and unhurried in his checks. He referred me on, and the practice gave me a very prompt follow on appointment with the appropriate expert.
The dental hygienist was gentle and took on board my preferred way of removing plaque, ie not drowning my mouth and throat with water. Excellent treatment.
Would recommend you to register here if your looking for a Professional team to take care of your dental needs.
Before I attended the practice, I was contacted by phone with a supporting E mail, to explain how Moody Terrace Dental Practice intended to keep their patients and themselves safe, relating to the Corona19 pandemic.
When I arrived for my appointment, I followed the protocol required of me, which was all very dignified, I felt very safe.
My extraction went well, thank you Adam for your care and professonism. 🦷
Highly recommend - sedation his speciality !

Private patient, was given an appointment 2 hrs after calling, crown refitted, xrays taken and toothache checked all in half an hour. Cait a very professional and knowledgeable dentist took the time to explain in detail what happening in a very calm and reassuring atmosphere... Less expensive than I imagined and worth every penny.

Tooth Removal FAQS
Tooth extractions are required for several reasons, including severe decay that’s beyond repair, advanced gum disease that has compromised supporting tissue, and infections. A tooth may also need to be removed to address crowding (before getting dental braces) or to prepare for another treatment (such as implants or dentures).
No, you won’t feel pain because the area will be numbed with a local anaesthesia before the tooth removal. However, you can expect to feel slight pressure as the tooth is being removed. Afterwards, the area may feel a bit sore, but this can be managed with an over-the-counter pain reliever.
The average recovery period is 1 to 2 weeks, depending on your health condition and the severity of the case. During this time, the swelling goes down as the gum tissue heals. To speed up the healing process, it’s best to avoid smoking and strenuous activities and follow other aftercare instructions.
For the first few days, we recommend sticking to warm, non-spicy soup, mashed potatoes, yoghurt, and smoothies. Avoid using a straw and foods that are hard, sticky, or crunchy, as these can disturb the extraction site.
A dry socket develops when the blood clot that formed on the extraction site is dislodged, exposing the nerves and bone underneath. To prevent this, avoid smoking or drinking through a straw, and follow other aftercare instructions.
